You can use AirPlay to stream music, photos, and video wirelessly to Apple TV and other AirPlay enabled devices. Apple cables and adapters can also be used to connect your iOS device to an external TV, projector, or display.
How To Connect iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch To TV
With AirPlay, you can stream content wirelessly from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your HDTV and speakers with Apple TV or to your AirPlay speakers or receivers, including AirPort Express.
You can AirPlay videos, music, or photos from a variety of different locations on your iOS device, including from within the Photos, Videos, Safari, and Music apps, or directly from recently used apps.
The AirPlay controls appear when an AirPlay enabled device is available on the same Wi-Fi network that your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is connected to.
To stream content to an AirPlay enabled device, Tap and choose the device. To stream content on Apple TV, select your Apple TV from the list of available devices that appears.
The images of a TV screen or speaker next to each AirPlay device in the AirPlay menu indicate the type of media content you can stream to that device.
You can also mirror the contents of your iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 or iPad screen on a TV. To mirror screen on a TV, tap at the left end of the multitasking bar, choose an Apple TV, and tap Mirroring.
A blue bar appears at the top of the device screen when AirPlay mirroring is turned on. When AirPlay mirroring is turned on, everything on your iOS device screen appears on the TV.
Digital AV Adapter
You can use the Apple Digital AV Adapter to mirror your iPad, iPhone 4S screen to an HDMI-compatible display. You can watch movies on the big screen in up to 720p by connecting your iPad, iPhone 4, or iPod touch (4th generation) to TV.
Composite AV Cable
If your TV does not support HDMI, you can connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch to your TV with the Apple Composite AV Cable. You can also connect the Composite AV Cable to your stereo or powered speakers.
The Composite AV Cable connects to your device or Universal Dock via the 30-pin dock connector and to your TV via the composite video and red/white analog audio ports.
You can use the Apple VGA Adapter to mirror your iPad or iPhone 4S screen on a VGA equipped TV, monitor, or external projector. It supports video mirroring on iPad 2 or later and iPhone 4S; and video out (only) on iPad (1st generation), iPhone 4, or iPod touch (4th generation).
Lightning to VGA Adapter
Lightning to VGA Adapter lets you put your slides, movies, photos, and everything else on your iPad with Retina display, iPad mini, iPhone 5, or iPod touch (5th generation) screen on TV. It also supports video out for watching movies, TV shows, and more.
Just attach your Lightning to VGA Adapter to the Lightning connector on your device and then to your TV or projector via a VGA cable.
Lightning Digital AV Adapter
The Lightning Digital AV Adapter mirrors your iPad with Retina display, iPad mini, iPhone 5, or iPod touch (5th generation) screen on your widescreen TV, video projection screen, or other HDMI-compatible display.
It outputs video content to your TV in up to 1080p HD. Simply attach the Lightning Digital AV Adapter to the Lightning connector on your device and then to your TV or projector via an HDMI cable.
